Etat Libre D’Orange Like This (Mathilde Bijaoui) 2010: How do you celebrate Thanksgiving? Like This… Originally created for Tilda Swinton, Etat Libre D’Orange Like This is composed with ingredients that Swinton loved. Perfumer Mathilde Bijaoui wrote in her young perfumer article: “I decided to play around an “orange-colored” accord with various ingredients: carrot, ginger, pumpkin, mandarin, orange blossom, immortelle…” Like This is opens with a bright burst of neroli and yellow mandarin at top, accompanied by pumpkin, ginger and maple syrup-like immortelle. One spritz and for me, it immediately evokes a Thanksgiving dessert table at my late grandmother’s when I was a kid. While Tilda Swinton’s name is no longer on the bottle, she is there in spirit. Etat Libre D’Orange Like This embraces me like the memory of my grandmother’s hug.-Michelyn

Parfums de Marly Oajan (Shyamala Maisondieu) 2013: Parfums de Marly Oajan (WAJE-AHN) is a grownup gourmand which is perfect for Thanksgiving and late autumn. Shyamala is one of my favorite perfumers because she always brings her signature international flair to her compositions. Oajan is an ambery warm perfume where honey and cinnamon are sprinkled on peachy osmanthus, reminding me of my grandmother’s version of struffoli (honeyballs) which she soaked in honey, cinnamon, and ground orange rind. –Michelyn
