Are you a. looking to start locs and b. are you lazy? Then you are in the right place. Welcome to the Lazy Girl’s Guide to Locs, written by a very lazy person. Locs can be low maintenance, but I want to take this article a step further and let you know it can be perfect for those that are downright lazy. I am going to start right from the beginning of how to craft the perfect lazy girl’s guide to locs.Â
Step 1: Selecting the Size Locs You Want
In order to be a lazy girl with locs, you’ll need to have some locs! In order to start locs, you’ll need to decide what size locs you want. So how many locs should you get? If you want to be lazy, I am going to let you know right now that microlocs are out of the question. That leaves you with anywhere from freeform or large to small locs. You can have lazy girl locs with any of these, so don’t worry.Â
Step 2: Starting Your Locs
The perfect methods for those starting locs are two strand twists and braidlocs. With these, you. don’t have to worry about unravelling as much. Instant locs are great too, but you’ll likely have to go to a loctician or do some more learning on how to get instant locs.Â
Step 3: Retwisting Your Locs
One of the biggest time sucks when it comes to maintening your locs is retwisting your locs. In the beginning I retwisted the traditional way – twisting the root. With this method, you are typically sitting down to do it all at once and maybe adding in some gels or sprays to ensure your retwist doesn’t immediately unravel. This is not great for lazy people. However, I am here to tell you there is another way – interlocking.
With interlocking you can lock whenever. You don’t need to mist your hair or use any product. Instead, you can just use your hands to interlock new growth. I cannot stress how perfect this is for lazy people. This means you can easily decide to retwist whenever for however long. In practice for me that means I just retwist new growth as it I notice it – typically when I am watching TV. I do not dedicate ANY time to retwisting my hair. There is no achy arms from retwisting too long or sad bank account from long hours spent at the loctician. There is just me – being lazy. Â
Step 4: Wash Day
Wash day is an event for many loose naturals. When it comes to having locs, wash days are the most time consuming part.
The best part of interlocking as well is you don’t have to pair wash day with much styling. You just have to wash your locs and keep your parts clear. Some tips:
- Clarifying Shampoo & No Conditioner!: Conditioner is not great for locs if you are trying to avoid product buildup. That’s great for the lazy as it is one less step you need to take in the shower.Â
- Use a Shower Head Attachment: They’re perfect for spraying any loose hairs down the drain or to your hair drain stopper.
- Absorbent Hair Towel: Towel drying is a great part of the lazy girl guide locs. This is because you can just air dry instead of spending more time in the bathroom with a blow dryer.
Note – with locs, clarifying is one of the most important parts of healthy locs and scalp. Thus, I spend the most part of my care for locs as really taking my time clarifying and rinsing my locs.Â
Step 5: MoisturizationÂ
The final step in this guide is moisturization. As I alluded to earlier, product and locs don’t really go together. This is good for your wallet, your locs and your efforts for being lazy. If you need moisturization, I would keep it as simple as possible. This helps prevent product buildup in your locs. Some simple products to incorporate moisture into your locs include: water, rose water, and aloe vera.Â

That’s it! The lazy girl’s guide to locs is pretty simple. Of course, everything is easier in theory rather than practice. Everyone has specific circumstances that may make things easier or harder. However, if you are a loose natural wondering if you can have an equally or even more lazy hair routine – the answer is a resounding and lazily shouted – hell yes.
