What Is Snail Mucin?
COSRX Snail Mucin, also known as snail secretion filtrate, is a skincare ingredient derived from the slime secreted by snails. It gained popularity in the beauty industry due to its numerous potential benefits for the skin. Snail Mucin is rich in nutrients like hyaluronic acid, glycoproteins, glycolic acid, and peptides, which are believed to have moisturizing, anti-aging, and skin-repairing properties.
Overall, Snail Mucin is considered a versatile ingredient that can benefit various skin types, from dry and aging skin to oily and acne-prone skin.
What Does Snail Mucin Do?
So what is Snail Mucin good for? Here are some of the potential benefits of snail mucin in skincare:
- Moisturizing: Snail Mucin contains hyaluronic acid, a humectant that helps to attract and retain moisture in the skin, keeping it hydrated and plump.
- Skin Repair: The mucin contains growth factors and peptides that may help repair damaged skin, promote cell regeneration, and improve the overall texture and appearance of the skin.
- Anti-Aging: Some studies suggest that Snail Mucin may have antioxidant properties, which can help protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals and environmental stressors, thus reducing the signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles.
- Brightening: Glycolic acid, a type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) found in Snail Mucin, can help exfoliate the skin, remove dead skin cells, and promote a brighter, more radiant complexion.
- Soothing and Calming: Snail Mucin has been reported to have soothing and anti-inflammatory effects, which can help calm irritated or sensitive skin, reduce redness, and alleviate symptoms of conditions like acne or rosacea.
How To Use Snail Mucin
The COSRX Snail Mucin Essence is best used after cleansing and toning but before your other serums and moisturiser. Moreover, it’s also best to use the Essence and All-In-One-Cream both morning and night. Follow this step-by-step guide on how to incorporate Snail Mucin and you’ll be on your way to glowy, plump skin in no time!
- Begin by cleansing and patting your skin dry.
- Follow up with a toner if you wish (this step is optional)
- Before you apply the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence 100ml, your skin should be slightly damp (not too wet, just a bit dewy). This allows all the nutrients to travel deeper into your skin.
- Apply 1-2 pumps to your fingertips and pat gently onto your face, neck and decolletage. Moreover, a little goes a long way, so stick to the recommended 1-2 pumps only.
- Next, follow up with your water-based serum, then oil-based serums.
- After your serums have been absorbed, it is time to apply the COSRX Advanced Snail Peptide Eye Cream (optional). We apply this eye cream before moisturising as it is more lightweight than the All-In-One-Cream. If you are using an eye cream that is richer/heavier, then it can be applied after moisturising instead.
Gently pat the cream into the skin around your eyes using your ring finger. - Now it is time to apply your moisturiser. Apply a small amount of COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream to your face, neck and decolletage and massage in.
- An SPF can be applied as your final step, as Snail Mucin can increase sensitivity to sunlight.
Tips:
– Always do a patch test before applying directly to your face. This will rule out any possibility of a reaction occurring. This does not just apply to COSRX products, but with every new skincare product you wish to introduce to your routine.
– Avoid using these products on broken or inflamed skin.
– A little goes a long way, so don’t overdo it.
