Gel nails starter pack – A. Nail Art Studio

Have you been thinking about starting doing nails? Are you thinking about becoming a licensed nail tech? Even if you are already a professional, this post might be useful for you.

We gathered a list of all the basic nail supplies that you would need when starting out as a beginner nail tech or even if you are a professional and running low on your supplies.

Preparation is key!

Preparation makes or breaks a good set of nails. You could create the longest, most gorgeous extensions, with some crazy intricate nail art- if you don’t prep the nails properly, they are going to pop right off in a couple days.

After pushing back, trimming the cuticles, removing all the dead skin cells from the nail plate and taking off the surface shine:

  1. Dehydrator/ Nail prep – to get rid of any moisture, oils on the surface
  2. Acid or acid free primer – to make sure that any gel product or acrylic is going to adhere to the nail surface

The perfect base changes the game

Normally, under gel products you need to use some sort of a gel base. You only need a very thin layer of these products, and they are going to make sure that your product really sticks, it lasts long, and they also strengthen and protect the natural nails. Some of these base products can be used on their own, in a thicker layer as well to create a small apex under gel polishes- like Mystic Nails Flexi Builder gels aka BIAB system. If you are a beginner, or you are only looking to create gel polish manicures, then this product would be a perfect choice for you. They are already coloured and can be used on their own as well, if you are looking for a nude, natural look.

If you want to do extensions…

If you actually are a beginner then you might want to try acrygel/polygel with reverse tips/dual forms to create extensions- just like the trend you see on Instagram. You just apply the polygel to the dual form, smooth it out with a brush and some alcohol, apply it to the nail, cure and the reverse tip pops right off. You only need to do some filing after that, and you can go in with the color of your choice. Mystic Nails Fill&Form would be perfect for you in this case.

However, if you want to apply actual builder gel on your natural nails, or create extensions, then we recommend any Mystic Nails Builder Gels and the Mystic Nails paper forms. If you are looking for a thicker consistency, you might want to go with the Mystic Nails Competition Builder gels, but all of them would be a great choice.

You can also find half or full cover tips in store from Moyra.

Spice it up with some colour!

When it comes to color, the possibilities are basically endless. We have multiple brands of wipe-free colour gels, painting gels, nail art gels, gel polishes etc, and they all come in a multitude of shades, glitters, shimmer.

But if you are just starting out, we would recommend going with the Mystic Nails Gel polishes. The application is similar to regular nail polishes, and you might have an easier time applying these then color gels. They are also crazy pigmented, so you don’t have to worry about your color being streaky or patchy. And of course, you can find any color you wish!

Seal the deal with the perfect top coat!

We have multiple top coats with a glossy, shimmery, matte or some special effect finish. We love all of them, your choice really only depends on what consistency you are looking for. Some nail techs prefer a thicker top coat, some like a thinner formula.

Mystic Nails Joker shine is our all time favourite as it stays just as glossy even after 5 weeks of wear as when you applied it.

Add some moisture to the cuticles

The last and finishing step should always be moisturizing the cuticles and nails with some delicious smelling cuticle oil. Here are all the Moyra cuticle oils! The peach one is our favourite.

So these are all the main basics nail supplies you need to start doing nails, practice as a beginner nail tech, or even if you are already a professional. Don’t forget that you can always experiment and add some different nail art elements. You can check out all of our effect powders, stickers, stamping plates and art gels on the website as well!
