Whether you regularly get Brazilian bikini waxing or you’re a complete waxing virgin, there’s no doubt that it’s painful. After all, you’re having your hair ripped straight from a rather sensitive area.
While there’s no way to make waxing completely pain-free, there are a few great ways to make it less painful. Read on to learn how you can make your Brazilian Bikini waxing less painful.
Top Tips for Reducing Brazilian Bikini Waxing Pain
If you’re sick of painful, bumpy skin and razor burn after shaving, it’s time to embrace Brazilian Bikini Waxing.
There are many myths about waxing, including the myth that it’s super-painful. But there are some ways you can reduce this pain and enjoy all the benefits associated with waxing.
Here are some ways you can alleviate the pain from Brazilian bikini waxing.
Drink Wisely
When you drink lots of water, your skin is much more moisturized and plump. That makes it easier to remove hair, and your waxing will be less painful.
While you may assume that having an alcoholic drink will help reduce pain, this is a misconception. Drinking alcohol will tighten up your pores. When your pores are open, waxing is less painful as the hair follicle can easily be removed from your pore. When your pores are tight, it grabs onto your hair. Ouch.
Believe it or not, but you should also skip the caffeine. Coffee contains stimulants which make your skin more sensitive. Choose decaf before you wax and treat yourself to a coffee once you’re finished waxing.
Exfoliate
A few days before you wax, begin using an exfoliating mitt or scrub. This removes dead skin, making it less painful when you’re waxing. Exfoliating also makes it much easier for the wax to reach your shorter hairs the first time around- meaning you won’t need to wax the same part twice.
Exfoliating also reduces the chances of ingrown hairs and keeps you nice and smooth down there.
Take Asprin
If you’re the type who gets a little nervous before waxing, take a couple of Asprin an hour before you plan to wax. By the time you’re ready to wax, the Asprin will take the edge off most of your pain.
Check the Length
If your hair is too short, the wax won’t be able to grab it. But if it’s too long, you’ll want to trim it first since this can make it more painful. Aim for 1/4 of an inch long, and give it a trim if it’s any longer.
Distract Yourself
When you’re focused on pain, you tend to feel it more. Instead of treating your waxing like medicine that you need to take, find some ways to make it fun. Maybe you can play your favorite playlist. Or perhaps you have a podcast you love. You may even want to learn some makeup tricks from your favorite beauty blogger.
Grab your laptop or smartphone, and distract yourself with some Netflix, music, YouTube, or whatever helps.
Schedule Wisely
If you’re planning to wax, make sure you schedule it in at the right time. Waxing right before your period is not a good idea. This is because you’re much more sensitive (and maybe even PMSing).
Plan your Brazilian bikini waxing for just after your period. This is when your pain threshold is at its highest, so plan for a few days after your cycle has finished.
Be Regular
Did you know that waxing regularly can mean your hair will grow back thinner? If you make sure you’re regular with your waxing and avoid shaving, you’ll find that each wax is slightly less painful then before.
Work on Your Technique
While waxing at home, you’ll need to ensure that you have the correct waxing technique to alleviate any pain.
It is best if you have a large mirror in front of you to ensure that you are applying the wax on the correct areas. When waxing the bikini, it is best to wax no more than a 2-inch area at a time. Be sure to pay attention to the direction of hair growth, as the wax must be applied in the same direction the hair grows. When you are ready to pull off the wax, it must be done in the opposite direction as hair growth.
Breathe
You’ve spread the wax on your skin, and you know you have to find the courage to pull it off. Remember, failing to pull quickly enough will mean you’ll leave wax on your skin and you probably won’t get all of your hair the first time.
Holding your breath will cause you to tense, which increases the amount of pain you’ll feel.
Instead, take a deep breath, count to three, and then breathe out as you pull off the wax.
Choose the Right Wax
The type of wax you choose will have a huge impact on how much pain you feel when Brazilian bikini waxing. Hard wax is ideal for this area, as you can simply heat it to the correct temperature yourself, apply it with a spatula, and then zip it off- without needing any additional strips. Hard wax is also the least painful option, particularly if you have short, coarse hairs.
