Locs Feature: Verne – Sisterlocks 15 Years & Counting

1. Tell us about yourself.

My name is Verne Wine, I am a sisterlock consultant as well as a Master Esthetician in the state of Virginia.

2. How long have you had locs and how many do you have?

I will have had locs for 15 years on February 3, 2024 and I have over 600 sisterlocks!

3. How do you take care/wash your locs?

I wash my hair every 10 days with the Sisterlocks Green Tea and Dandruff shampoo. I also use the Sisterlocks Moisture treatment and Sisterlocks Reconstructor conditioner. When it comes to retightening,  I try to get them retightened every 6 weeks but occasionally 8 weeks if my schedule is busy. I try to not self retighten, but I end up doing it at least once a year. When I do it, it takes me about 10 hours. When I get them done by a consultant it takes 4-5 hours.

4. Do your locs have any meaning to you?

I got my locs when I was 11 years old. At the time I was just happy to not have to get my hair done all the time because I was very tenderheaded. So this has been an amazing journey. I’m now at a place where I definitely appreciate the ease of waking up and just going instead of having to do my hair everyday.

5. Do you have any issues with your locs & how do you deal with them?

No, I haven’t felt with any issues over the almost 15 years I’ve had them.

6. How did you start your locs?

My locs were started by the Sisterlock method.

7. Tell us about your locs (texture, length, size). Do you think any of these attributes have impacted how you care for your locs?

Honestly, I’m not quite sure what my hair texture is. When I first got my locs I didn’t know the different categories. But I will say my hair has always been very thick and I have tight coils. As for the length, my hair is long and now all the way to waist length. Sisterlocks has a very specific method to care for your locs which makes it very easy to maintain.

8. What do you like/dislike most about having locs?

I love the carefree life I have with my sisterlocks. I can curl them if I like or wear them straight. Being able to wash and go is also a huge plus. Locs are definitely the only thing I want to do with my hair. I can’t think of any cons, I’m very content with my hair.

9. How do you like to style your locs?

I do braid outs the most and long bantu knots. They are easy to do and I can wear them while they are being styled and after I take them out.

10. Anything else you want to share (tips, locs, life)? Is there a way we can follow you and your endeavors on social media that you would like to share?

Definitely do your research before making such a permanent step. So many people regret hair choices because they didn’t do enough research. For sisterlocks in general just to make sure you find a certified loctician to do them because they are definitely an investment.
