It has been ages since I have done a full routine skincare review, but the time has come and it’s a GOOD one! Naturium has finally landed in Canada at Shoppers Drug Mart and I am ALL OVER IT! I have almost a full routine here (I didn’t receive the Vitamin C until recently) and I cannot get enough of it! I have been using Naturium for almost 2 months straight and I am ready to share my thoughts on a few of the products I was able to try!
Created by You Tube creator, Susan Yara, of Mixed Makeup, Naturium was launched in late 2019 and is probably one of the few “influencer brands” I have followed from the beginning as I regularly watched all of the Mixed Makeup videos for years. I liked Susan’s recommendations and when she was FINALLY asked by Vogue to showcase her routine after reacting to other people’s I was so excited! I identified with her skin and her skin philosophy so when she launched Naturium, I knew that all of those things she found important in skincare when it came to ingredients would be represented in her skincare line. Now, there was a bit of drama with the launch that led to an apology video (I feel like there was a time in 2020 when that’s all we heard from Youtubers), but I eventually forgave and became one of the many Canadians waiting for Naturium to come!
Purple Ginseng Cleansing Balm*
Susan is a big double cleanser advocate (and no makeup wipes ever!) so I knew that there had to be a cleansing balm or oil in her skincare routine. This cleansing balm is formulated with purple ginseng, plant-based esters and oils rich in linoleic acid that hydrate the skin while dissolving sunscreen, makeup and impurities. There is no scent and has a sorbet-like texture that melts instantly onto the skin. You can use a spatula, but I use my finger or nail to scoop the product out. It emulsifies even the toughest waterproof eye makeup and does not irritate my eyes so I can get right in there when massaging my lashes! It also rinses off the skin nicely leaving a softness to the skin that feels clean, but not stripped.
Niacinamide Cleansing Gelee 3%
This one I had to purchase because I wanted to double cleanse using a Naturium product so I hauled ass to Shoppers and picked up the Niacinamide Cleansing Gelee and LOVE IT! Firstly, it has such a fun texture which I can only describe as a “loose jelly” making it quite fun to massage into the skin. I can use this all over my face including my eyes, again with zero irritation, and it gets a little but foamy, but again does not leave my skin feeling squeaky clean. Whenever I feel a foaming from a cleanser, I always wonder if my skin will feel squeaky as that is the case most of the time, but I knew Susan wouldn’t let me down! Fantastic cleanser and the fact that there is 3% niacinamide in this is an added brightening bonus!
BHA Liquid Exfoliant 2%*
It is advisable to start using this every other day and build up to every day if your skin can handle it. You can apply with a cotton pad or directly with your hands which is what I do as I don’t like the idea of product being wasted in a cotton pad! I use this right after cleansing at night and then follow with my usual skincare routine afterwards. And as always, when using exfoliating products you absolutely need to wear SPF during the day!
Niacinamide Serum Plus Zinc 12%*
Now, THIS was the product I was most interested in trying because I do love a good niacinamide serum and like to use one at night as I use a vitamin C serum in the mornings. One thing Susan got right is that everything is so nicely layerable! Some niacinamide serums are sticky, but this one is a gel and does not leave any hint of tackiness. It layered well with a sheet mask on top. If you have redness, this 2% zinc will help to calm the inflammatory response especially in cases of acne.
Multi-Peptide Moisturizer*
This moisturizer is ALL THAT and more! I have used this moisturizer so much that it is concave at the top and I can feel that I am getting close to the end! What makes this moisturizer special is that it contains three different peptides at the beginning of the ingredients list as well as ascorbic acid, niacinamide and squalane. This honestly has so many lovely ingredients in it and I love the how quickly the texture absorbs. Again, Susan has done a great job with making a moisturizer that allows me to still layer a sunscreen comfortably on top without feeling like I have too much on.
Final verdict: I love every single product that I have tried with the Niacinamide Cleansing Gelee and Multi-Peptide Moisturizer being my favourite products of this routine. A few weeks ago, I was also sent the Vitamin C Complex Serum so I will start using that soon as well! I love the ingredient formulations, how the textures complement each other when the products layer and pricing is VERY reasonable! I am glad that this brand has finally made its way to Canada, but I want ALLLLLL the products to make it here now!
